If you need advice on what to do as a new player, You have several
options available to you, starting with which game entrance you use.
o For the most modern player experience, use the "academy" game
entrance to enter at the Arnisdale Adventuring Academy, a
self-contained area for new players with enough content to get you
to level 8. Playing here until at least level 5 is the recommended
path for new players of any kind.
o If you want a full 1990s retro experience, with a feel quite close
to the original LPMud 2.4.5 starting area, use the "church" game
entrance instead and head south to explore Fred's Newbie Palace.
Note that many things are less well described and syntax may not be
standard.
o If you want to explore the first major addition to the game, also
from the 1990s, use the "newland" game entrance and follow the
graffiti to Gwynn's newbie area.
If you find you don't like the area you start with, you can always
logoff and login somewhere else. The areas also all connect, though it
may take you some time to learn how.
Regardless of which area you choose, your general goals are the same:
o You want to find the local pub, shop, and adventurer's guild. Kill
some monsters, get experience, and reach level 4.
o To reach level 5, find and complete a quest. Recommended ones are
the Academy quest, the Orc Slayer quest, and the Playground quest.
You can also always just complete a game of Solitaire, Freecell, or
Boggle.
o From level 5, explore more. Map out the area around all three
entrances. Find more quests and level more. By level 8 you should
expect to have found the quest areas for Orc Slayer, Emrys' Smurf
quest, Chaosmonger's Playground quest, Freya's Revenants quest,
Bardslayer's quest, Cruiser's Minoan quest, Galeck's Jack quest,
Twoflower's quest, Ghiorso and Gwynn's farmer quest, Selice's
Jabberwock quest, and Quantos' Remael quest.
o Between level 5 and 8 you should also find and join a guild.
Exploring around the game entrances you should be able to locate the
barbarian, cybertech, mage, and paladin guilds.
o By level 10, you should have explored and mapped most of the areas
around the entrances, know what kind of equipment you want to look
for each day, and start branching out into the rest of the MUD.
Study the major area maps, read the quest list, and go find the
quests that sound interesting to you. Level in your guild as you go.
You'll be a wizard in no time!
